“SOCIAL SKILLS, IMPULSE CONTROL AND BEYOND”
This group is designed for children ages 5-10 who have been diagnosed with diagnosed with ADHD and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Each group is gender-specific. The group utilizes play therapy, art therapy, bibliotherapy, and skill-building activities to foster positive social skills, impulse control, anger-management skills, coping skills, and organizational skills. Therapeutic interventions that enhance self-esteem and self-confidence are also incorporated. The children not only learn necessary life skills, but they also form positive relationships with their peers. As part of the group process, they are encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings related to their own current stressors and receive positive feedback within a safe and trusting environment.
How many children are allowed per group?
No more than 5 children are allowed per group. New groups are formed as enrollment increases.
When are group sessions held?
Group sessions for the ADHD/PDD group are scheduled twice monthly on Mondays. (See the schedule below for current times.). Additional group times will be added as enrollment increases.
What is the cost per session?
Most insurance plans are accepted including fee-for-service Medicaid. Because most private insurance plans do not cover group therapy as a covered benefit, the self-pay cost per session is reduced to $35.00 per session.
Why group therapy?
Studies have shown tremendous improvement in behavior when group therapy is utilized as an intervention. Having a positive peer support group naturally increases motivation to increase positive behavior. Likewise, the sense of belonging and the sense of others understanding improves one’s self-esteem.
